Happy Birthday Andy Warhol: 8/6

Andy Warhol was actually rejected by fellow gay NY artists because he he was "too swish and that upset them."

In response to this, Warhol wrote, "There was nothing I could say to that. It was all too true. So I decided I just wasn't going to care, because those were all the things that I didn't want to change anyway, that I didn't think I 'should' want to change... Other people could change their attitudes but not me".

  1. Genius then, genius now. 'cept there are some people that still won't admit it for another 50 years.

  2. It doesn't matter now. He longed for Jasper Johns and Robert Rauschenberg to accept him; that's who he was talking about in the above quote. BUT, in 2013, ask the average person who Jasper Johns is and they won't have a clue, but who can't (at least) say they've heard of Warhol?
He was a standout then and a standout now.
