Does Socialism Work?

An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class. That class had insisted that Obama's socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer. The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on Obama's plan". All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A.... (substituting grades for dollars - something closer to home and more readily understood by all). After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little. The second test average was a D! No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F. As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else. To their great surprise, ALL FAILED and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed. It could not be any simpler than that. Remember, there IS a test coming up. The 2012 elections. These are possibly the 5 best sentences you'll ever read and all applicable to this experiment: 1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. 2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. 3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. 4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it! 5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

  3. Agreed with the first commentator.

Your analysis is subpar. As a socialist (which President Obama is not), I would prefer you go back to posting Salvatore cock shots and leave politics to the smart people blogs.

  4. You really have overreach this time. What you don't know about political ideology and economics could float a ship. For God's sake, you can't even spell correctly half the time.

Why don't you stick to your areas of expertise, like drunken twinks at Fiesta, local rumored call boys and Gaga videos?,

  6. I would expect nothing more than a supremely superficial look at socialism from a site like this. The above commenters hit the nail on the head. You don't know dick about politics so go back to the trash talking. If you're going to do political snark, at least make it funny.

  7. I agree with this article. Great enlightenment piece!

  8. Duh. Your pithy column does not describe Socialism but rather Communism. Any do-do head should know this. I swear, it's a testament to the sad state of the education system in this country that dimwitted people like you have the power of this website. Go back to class AND PAY ATTENTION THIS TIME! And hopefully you'll learn that unbridled Capitalism ultimately destroys the culture - even the rich will suffer when they pilfer all the money from the masses.

  9. Are you serious with this? Obama has governed on a moderate-right path. The health care plan that is so lambasted was a Republican plan originally, designed to NOT have the people pay for other people's healthcare. Also, the "redistribution of wealth" that you are accusing the President of is nothing more than the goal of going back to the Clinton-era tax rates. Is that so awful?

  10. i am shocked and delighted to see this post on the site. it's good to know that there are other gay republicans out there who have made their own choices with their politics and not felt required to follow the herd and vote democrat just because gay america expects you to. Bravo!

  11. This post is too much haha. It is as ignorant as the professor talked about, what really surprises me, since the guy is a professor.
First capitalism promotes individualism. People are raised, educated, brought up to be individualistic. The experiment proposed was given to a small group of inexperienced, immature, capitalist kids. Who were raised on individualism. Also the capitalist education system is based on giving the information ready to digest so the person thinks less.
So the outcome could not be other.
The "i help you to help me, to help the next one" or "i take care of you, so u can take care of me, so we can take care of the next one" line of thinking does not exist in capitalism. And humans are conditioned beings.
And the professor was also wrong by saying that no one would fail or get an A. If everyone had really put an effort into studying and all got top grades, then...(and he proved himself wrong on that one since he failed the entire class duh).
Also, please, please, please, learn the difference between socialism and communism. And Obama is far from being either one of them. How can people talk about things that they don't know? Gives me the creeps.
The sad thing is that ignorance is not a choice for all species in nature. But humans. For humans it is a choice.
This is the era of mediocrity. Thanks capitalism!!!
I am an anarchist btw, do u know what is?

  12. and how about a better world, where everyone is happy, healthy, equal, and have everything they need, isn't that a great enough reward to have us put an effort great enough to succeed other than money?

Agree with the site or not... the point is that you can form you own opinion after we've presented what we've found. If you think I care about 95% of the content here... you're sniffing glue!

  15. I love love love love love that WeHo Confidential posted this....

I am so frustrated always that one is expected to be a collectivist moron simply for being gay. Individualism is central to our freedom and socialism seeks to destroy individualism.

Thank you so much for posting this and keeping the debate alive. THANK YOU GUYS.

Ever notice how the socialists tend to be the playa hata's? And they tend to be the ones who sit alone, moping, and miserable, and so eager to spread their misery to others?

  16. Very naive of you to think that you live in freedom. Let me break this down to you. You are a slave. A slave of the government, of the bankers, of the media, of the corps, of money.
Try being with no money whatsoever to see how free you really are. And see how many will really help you out.
that is the kind of individualism socialism seeks to "destroy", not the one that allows you to be whatever you want to be.
Once again, socialism is not communism.
