Hollywood last Sunday.
Aaron (names have been changed to protect identity) and four friends were
returning to their room at the Roosevelt Hotel last Sunday night/Monday morning
12/19 around 2 AM, and after stepping off the elevator into the hallway were
confronted by a group of about 10 male Hispanics. The gang members, judging
Aaron and his friends to be gay, began taunting them and calling them faggots.
They began attacking his friend Mark and threw his friend Shannon to the ground.
Aaron stepped in to pull Shannon out and try to defend Mark, and he immediately
sustained a blow to the head knocking him out. The attackers continued kicking
Aaron in the head even after he had slumped to the ground, causing enormous cuts
and gashes on his face and body and resulting in a concussion. Mark and Shannon
were also injured during the fracas.
Aaron awoke in a pool of blood with LAPD and paramedics standing over him.
Although he was bleeding profusely, Eric declined to be taken to the hospital
because he has no insurance. The next day, upon realizing how badly he was
wounded, he did receive medical attention for his concussion and the gash on his
forehead was treated with six stitches.
Immediately following the incident Aaron and his friends decided it was best to
check out of the Roosevelt, feeling that it was extremely unsafe for them to
remain. Upon checking out they requested a refund for being placed in such a
terrifying situation in a place where people should expect to feel safe. The
manager denied the refund, stating, "I'm the one who has to deal with your blood
all over the floor."
LAPD is investigating the incident, and apparently has identified some of the
gay-bashers thanks to surveillance video. The identified criminals are evidently
known thugs residing in Oakland.
Anyone with information about Aaron's beating last Sunday night should call LAPD
Hollywood Division at (213) 485-4302.
