Tuesday night after leaving Motherlode Billy Mandrick was brutally attacked and robbed near Santa Monica Blvd. and Robertson. The gay hater approached Billy and yelled "Hey faggot, what are you doing out here so late?"
Billy tried to ignore the man and headed for the corner to cross the street. The man came closer, asking him where he was going and why he was out, repeatedly calling him a "fucking faggot". Billy began backing away from the man, apologizing for offending him.
At that point the hater sucker punched Billy in the face, leaving a nasty bruise next to his eye, and continued with two or three more punches until Billy fell down at the curb. The attacker kicked Billy in the chest once and then Billy heard a second man say, "Thats enough, leave the fuckin' queen alone, let's go." The attacker grabbed Billy's cell phone and wallet and vanished. The assailant is described as a white caucasian, shaved or very short hair, approx. six feet tall, 180 pounds, and was wearing a dark colored polo shirt and jeans. Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call the West Hollywood Sheriff Station at (310) 855-8850.

This is shocking. I always thought that West Hollywood was the safest place for gays at all times.

ReplyDeletePepper spray, pepper spray, pepper spray. I'm 6 feet 2 inches, 250 lbs, and I carry mine everywhere I go. When I lived in WeHo five years ago there were reports of homophobes taunting people at the corner of Santa Monica/San Vicente, and no one would even come out of the bars to help. You can't assume your safe anywhere, gay or not, and you can't count on anyone else- you have to protect yourself. If you won't do it for yourself, do it for the people that love you.

ReplyDeleteThis is why I HATE that there are straight bars in weho. Not to say that's the only reason straights are in town, but I've been called plenty a things by all those dumb douche bags at the valet.
ReplyDeleteWeHo is surrounded and divided by major traffic traveling through it, so straights have always been in the neighborhood. But one issue is straight bars + alcohol = straights with attitude problems, as we've seen time and time again.
